Factors in Getting a Commercial Vacuum Cleaner
Commercial vacuum cleaners are powerful, versatile, and can do a slew of cleaning jobs. These machines can handle dust, dirt even large dirt debris like gravel. Getting a commercial vacuum cleaner can be a tough decision to make, especially if you don’t know much about these machines. So to start, here are a few factors you may want to consider when buying a commercial vacuum cleaner for heavy-duty tasks.
Bag Size
Considering the bag size of the vacuum cleaner, you’re getting, especially if you’re going to use it for heavy-duty tasks is a critical point. You’ll be cleaning a lot of dust and dirt, meaning, you must get a commercial vacuum cleaner with enough space that can store everything it gets collected.
Not all vacuum cleaners come with a bag system. In cases, you will consider a bagless commercial vacuum cleaner, check the dirt bin capacity and make sure it offers a great storage hold. You would want to get a machine that can hold dirt more than what you expect to clean every time you use the vacuum. This way, cleaning will be seamless as you won’t need to worry about emptying the dirt bins often.
Cord Length
Cord length is another crucial factor to look upon when you’re getting a commercial vacuum cleaner. Although many vacuum cleaners now are cordless, for the machines that are mainly for heavy-duty tasks, they might perform better if corded. It’s because corded vacuum cleaner can usually offer more power when it comes to suction.
Now, the cord length of these vacuum cleaners is essential as it will give you convenience and flexibility when it comes to cleaning floor spaces in one pass. Commercial vacuum cleaners are typically used for cleaning large areas. Thus, opt for units with long cords. It will save you time and energy when plugging and unplugging the machine.
It will also give you the convenience of cleaning spaces far from the socket without needing to use extension cords. Most corded vacuum cleaners offer a cord length of 25′-40’. If you think this length won’t still be enough for you to get the convenience you want, you may want to opt for cordless vacuum cleaners instead.
Height
Heavy-duty vacuum cleaners are relatively larger and bulkier than other vacuum types. However, that doesn’t mean you will have to suffer and sacrifice comfort while using these machines. Fortunately, these days, we have commercial vacuum cleaners that you can adjust the height. It’s a must-have feature for industrial vacs.
Especially if different people are going to use the machine, they must feel comfortable using the vacuum whether they’re tall or shorter than the average. Comfort, while using this type of product, is a critical factor when getting a commercial vacuum cleaner as these machines are typically used for long periods. Thus, cleaning time must feel easy and hassle-free for all people who will use the vacuum.
Cleaning Versatility
The commercial vacuum cleaner you’re going to get must be able to clean multi-surface types. Make sure the product can clean the floor types you deal with your work. Choose a product that can keep floors safe and dent-free like wooden and hard floors. Most upright vacuum cleaners can do such work efficiently. If you’re going to get a canister vacuum, make sure it has a special cleaning head for cleaning such surfaces. These are simple yet important features that get overlooked most of the time. Remember to check on these factors when you buy a commercial vacuum cleaner.
Hose
When cleaning using a vacuum, know that the bigger the hose, the faster you will finish your work. Thus, when getting a commercial vacuum cleaner, check if the model has a large hose diameter. The average hose diameter is 11/2″ -2″. Keep this in mind, and make sure when you get a commercial vacuum cleaner, it offers a larger size than the average hose diameter or at least not the below the standard.
Top Commercial Vacuum Cleaners
Different vacuum types offer varying benefits, features, and convenience. So when getting a product, make sure you know your purpose of purchasing. You also have to consider the areas you will clean using the vacuum. Now that you know some of the crucial factors you will have to consider when getting the right product for you, the next step is choosing which brand and model perfectly fit your needs.
We made this list of the best commercial vacuum cleaners to help you with your decision. You may or may not find the product you’re looking for in this roll-call, but at least, you will get an idea of what great features you can choose from among different commercial vacuum cleaners.

Best Canister Vacuum Cleaners 2021
Let’s face it, most of us hate vacuuming. I love the look of clean carpets but I never look forward to the task of extracting dirt from them. Thankfully the choice of vacuums, to clean the house quicker, is more abundant than ever. Nowadays, the improvements in technology and the convenience of modern canister vacuums means that you can get the job done with the least effort.
What type of canister vacuum should you buy? This depends on your budget, the type of home and your cleaning requirements. We’ve shortlisted 7 of the best canisters that have outshined the competition in 2021. Whether your preference is for a bagged or bagless vacuum, we’ve got you covered.
Here are some of the things to consider when deciding on the type of canister vacuum to buy:
Suction Power
Powerful suction is essential to ensure that the dirt buried deep down your carpets is lifted effectively. Ideally, you want to find a canister with up to 250 aw of suction power. You should also consider root cyclone technology to amplify the centrifugal force that catches dirt and dust particles and separates it from the air.
Size
The size of your canister vacuum is an important factor not to be overlooked. If storage space is an issue in your home then there’s a good selection of compact canisters to choose from. In fact, all of the vacuums on our shortlist are portable and don’t compromise on cleaning performance despite their portability.
Attachments
A great selection of attachments is just as important as suction power. Modern canisters are usually supplied with turbo tools (to lift out stubborn dirt), crevice tools for small gaps, stair tools, dusting tools and tangle-free tools for vacuuming pet hair. A good range of attachments transforms your canister into a versatile cleaning beast to tackle all areas of the house.
Filtration
A high-quality filtration system does 2 things. It cleans the air as it passes through the machine, separating dust, allergens and expelling cleaner air. The Filtration system also seals the dust inside the machine and ensures that it doesn’t escape back into the atmosphere. If possible you should buy a canister with HEPA filtration to catch airborne allergens. Be on the lookout for washable filters to reduce the cost of replacement.
Bin capacity
The size of the dirt bin determines the frequency at which you empty dirt. Most compact canisters are cleverly designed in such a way that the bin is the biggest part of the machine. The bin capacity should be about 2 litres and should house an easy-emptying mechanism that can hygienically dispose of dirt in the least amount of time.
#1. Miele Compact C1 Pure Suction Canister Vacuum
Our no.1 canister vacuum cleaner is the Miele Compact C1 Pure suction. If you’re looking for a portable vacuum that delivers exceptional cleaning on wooden and tiled floors as well as carpets then look no further.
This is the best bagged canister which captures and keeps dust sealed inside the dirtbag with zero chance of it escaping back into the air.
C1 Pure Suction is ideal for medium to large sized homes and has settings that can easily be adjusted as you transition between different floor types.
Don’t mistake the Miele C1’s small size for lower performance, you will be surprised with the power behind this machine. The suction power beats most of the upright vacuums that I’ve tested and remember that those vacuums are much larger than the C1. The dirtbag has a large capacity and can hold 3.5 litres of dust and dirt without affecting the suction power. In addition to floor cleaning, there’s a bristle dusting tool that is extremely effective at cleaning furniture, window frames and other areas of the house, once the dust is caught it is not coming back out.
The control switches for the suction, power and to cable retraction can be found on the main unit. I was impressed with the Miele C1’s low noise level whilst in operation, even when the suction was at its strongest setting. The Miele vacuum is one of the quietest vacuums on my shortlist and it performs quieter than most of the uprights vacuums that I’ve tested without compromising on performance.
The Miele C1 is perfect for hard flooring and low-pile carpet. In my opinion, you won’t find a better canister vacuum for hard floors. A slight drawback is that it doesn’t come with powered tools, such as a rotating cleaner brush bar. You’ll also need to ensure that you buy spare bags when purchasing the Miele C1 as it comes with just 1 dirtbag and filter.
Here’s a quick summary of the features found on the Miele canister:
100% sealed system that traps dirt and dust and keeps it hygienically sealed away.
The turbo brush lifts lint and hair efficiently without fuss.
Swivel wheels provide easy handling and transportation of the canister.
Powerful 6 stage variable suctions speeds.
Large capacity dirtbag that holds up to 3.5 litres of dirt.
A stainless steel telescopic wand and a rug & floor nozzle are provided as standard.
The Dyson DC39 Animal is the best canister vacuum for pet owners. A big advantage of using a canister is that it can reach more areas easier than an upright especially underneath furniture where pets venture to. Pet hair, dust and dirt are a bad combination but with the DC39 you can clean hard floors and carpets like a champ.
There are several benefits of buying a Dyson vacuum such as root cyclone power which optimizes centrifugal force and delivers suction power that never fades, you also get a variety of attachments for various cleaning tasks and to vacuum different floor types. DC39 Animal does all the things an upright vacuum can do but enables you to do them at a faster rate. The machine is extremely light to steer around the house or to carrying up a flight of stairs. It is much easier to use than an upright. There’s a clever switch to turn off the brush head swivelling so that you can vacuum hard floors or rugs.
The canister follows you without needing to tug on the hose to pull it along. DC39 has been cleverly designed so that it doesn’t topple over. It goes wherever you go and will turn around corners and navigate over rugs without fuss.
A special turbine head lifts up pet hair efficiently and there’s a smaller version of the turbine tool to clean edges and smaller areas.
Additional attachments are supplied including a crevice tool with a brush attachment for delicate surfaces. There’s a stair tool that makes the dreaded task of stair cleaning much easier. The tube can be pivoted to different angles and is height adjustable.
The turbine head sits on top of a Dyson ball for precision steering into corners and around furniture. The turbine head also allows the tube to bend to a flat angle to clean spaces beneath furniture. The DC39 will eliminate dust as it goes along your floors.
This is the perfect canister for anyone with joint and back problems. It is so effortless to move with it around the house and doesn’t need you to bend your back excessively.
You can switch the appliance on and off and retract the cord with your foot. The brush head can be turned on and off using the controls at the handle. Say goodbye to the days of bending over to adjust the settings from hard floor to carpet and vice versa.
Dyson vacuums are not the cheapest option but in my opinion, they are worth the money for the level of features provided, they are very low maintenance and will save you money in the long run because of their sheer durability.
My old Dyson still vacuums just as good as the day that I first turned it on, I’ve used it for over 7 years and it has never broken down.
If you are after a reliable canister vacuum that meticulously cleans pet hair and any other type of dirt then the DC39 is a strong choice. It provides premium filtration and is certified asthma & allergy friendly by Allergy Standards Limited. The bin emptying system is hygienic and conveniently quick to get rid of dirt.
#3. Miele Complete C2 Hard Floor Canister Vacuum Cleaner
Third on the list is another Miele. This brand is so good that it featured twice on our shortlist. The Miele C2 Canister is a great choice for rooms that are primarily hard floored or fitted with low pile carpet. The C2 is lightweight and a breeze to move around the house. The machine noise is on the quieter side yet it performs with incredible suction power.
The Miele C2 Canister is equipped with a special tool which makes light work of hardwood floors and tiles. This large brush is time-saving and it glides across hard surfaces quickly and flawlessly. The suction is powerful and doesn’t usually need to be at its highest setting but it’s nice to have more power at your disposal should it be required for tougher jobs.
The advantage of using a bagged canister is that there’s less chance of dust escaping back into the air unlike with a bagless machine. With the Miele C2 there’s zero chance of dirt escaping thanks to the sealed system. The long wand simplifies awkward tasks and aids easier reach in tight spaces. The canister glides easier across surfaces and the smooth wheels never cause scratch marks on hard floors. Miele manufactures high-grade products and the C2 feels premium throughout, every detail is of top quality right down to the control knobs.
The only thing I would like to see improved on the C2 is the power cord could be a bit longer and an area on the wand to store the attachments for easier access. These are just a few minor drawbacks that don’t really take away from the great cleaning experience provided by the Miele C2 vacuum.
Overall, the Miele C2 Canister boasts a strong set of features and incredible suction. This vacuum is built to a very high standard, operates quieter than most vacuums and has an average lifespan of 20 years usage! The variable speeds will also guide you to choose the correct level of suction for specific floor types. If the floors in your home are mostly tiled, laminate or wooden flooring then I’d highly recommend the Miele C2 Hard Floor canister. If you are vacuuming a lot of high pile carpet then you should consider the Dyson DC39 instead (it’s no. 2 on our list).
#4. Kenmore 81614 Bagged Canister Vacuum with Pet PowerMate
Next up is the Kenmore 81614 bagged canister. After its initial success, Kenmore has been updating this vacuum for decades and its popularity has continued to grow. Similar to its predecessors, you can expect this vacuum to last for an average of 14 years as its built to a similar high standard. The powerful 2-motor system enables this canister to provide a comprehensive cleaning experience throughout your home.
HEPA filtration is provided as standard and the Kenmore vacuum rivals most canisters due to its versatility, Motorized pet hair brush, additional tools and a competitive price point. The machine weighs just 22.6 pounds and is easy to move around the house. The benefit of using a bagged canister over a bagless is that you are not going to get dust escaping back into the air when disposing of dirt. This Kenmore canister will provide you with years of consistently strong suction as long as you change the bags and filters at the specified intervals.
I like the attention to detail and the great design behind the Kenmore canister. It doesn’t topple over when the hose is overextended or when you are trying to reach an awkward area, the hose is extra long for added convenience, it easily attaches and detaches from the machine without causing a fuss.
Vacuuming your hard floors with an upright can be troublesome and unnecessarily difficult. The Kenmore makes this task very easy, simply press a button with your foot and the telescopic wand comes out. As mention earlier pet owners will be happy to know that a motorized Pet PowerMate tool is provided to lift up stubborn animal hair and dander in no time.
I would recommend the Kenmore 81614 bagged canister for busy households that require frequent cleaning of the mess caused by kids, pets and lots of traffic. The long hose and telescopic wand are great for high areas such as cleaning cobwebs from the ceiling. Reach underneath sofas and furniture and catch hidden dust that has been gathering up with the aid of the low-profile power head and the wand that can pivot to be completely flat against the floor. The cleaning head works on both carpets and hard floors without requiring to change attachments, simply transition between floors using the same tool.
The Kenmore canister is compact and vacuums up stubborn dirt that would take longer to clean with other canisters.
My dog sheds a lot of hair around the house and getting rid of it can be challenging if I don’t use the right appliance.
The Kenmore vacuum excels at picking up pet hair with very little effort and the results are pleasing.
If you’re looking for an affordable canister with a very long shelf life of over 10 years then you should consider buying the Kenmore 81614 bagged canister.
The low maintenance costs and durability of this machine will save you money in the long run.
#5. Bissell Hard Floor Expert Deluxe Canister Vacuum Cleaner
If the majority of your home is kitted out with hard floors it might be a good idea to buy a canister that expertly vacuums hard floors. The Bissell Hard Floor Expert Canister is a great vacuum for the job. Wooden, Tiled and laminate floors are much easier to clean with a canister because it is less cumbersome than an upright and better to handle. You can reach underneath and work around furniture much better and faster with the Bissell canister.
The vacuum glides across floors with ease and sometimes you can forget that it’s there, purely because of how easy it manoeuvres. The lightweight body ensures that the Bissell doesn’t get caught on electric cables laying around. The machine has 2 convenient handles i.e. one underneath the machine and the other one on top, near the power button, to lift and carry the machine easier.
You are supplied with a hardwood cleaning head that does an amazing job on wooden floors and laminate flooring. The head is portable enough to clean around furniture but still big enough to get through your floors in a minimal amount of time. I would recommend using the hardwood head on hard floors only because it doesn’t do a great job on carpets.
There’s also a tool provided for carpet cleaning which gives excellent results on low pile carpet but struggles to clean high pile carpets and thick rugs. If you need a canister primarily for carpet cleaning then you’re better off with the Dyson DC39 further up on this list.
The Bissell Hard Floor canister is a great choice for keeping hard surfaces clean. It is built using durable materials and doesn’t feel flimsy. The filters are easily reachable and even easier to clean.
The dirt-lifting abilities of this machine are impressive and this is one of the best canister vacuums that costs less than $130 to clean hard floors.
Overall, the Bissell Hard Floor Expert is a brilliant and affordable canister for hardwoods or smooth flooring. It will not scratch your floors and handles superbly around furniture and corners.
#6. Oreck Commercial BB900DGR XL Pro 5 Super Compact Canister Vacuum
The Oreck Commercial is the best heavy-duty compact canister vacuum that can be used either commercially or domestically. This is one of the smallest canister vacuums that I’ve seen but don’t be fooled by its size, this thing is a monster. Inside its tiny body is a powerful 2-stage bypass motor which provides better vacuuming capabilities than single-stage motors. This machine is so robust that it can be used in offices, building sites and shop floors.
Whenever I’m asked about a heavy duty vacuum cleaner, the Henry range pops into my head but it is a much larger appliance compared to the Oreck Commercial. If you are looking for a portable canister that can cope with demanding environments then you won’t find a better vacuum. Save yourself the hassle of lugging around a bigger machine and get the same brilliant results in less time. If you’re a workman who needs a vacuum that can always be kept in the truck without taking up too much space then this is the perfect solution.
The Oreck Commercial has a simple rectangular design with a shoulder strap and integrated handle for easier usage. It comes with an adjustable extension wand and 4-foot hose to vacuum areas above floor level. The power cable is extra long to clean a bigger area without worrying about changing plug sockets.
The biggest advantage of the Oreck Commercial is that it’s always there by your side whenever required, it doesn’t get in the way of your job and can be used to vacuum wood shavings, sawdust and any other debris from the work area. The canister can be conveniently used whilst the job is underway and once it’s completed to keep the area clean.
This Oreck vacuum has received a lot of praise from workmen that work in environments where sawdust is a byproduct. Cleaning sawdust from floors is not easy but the Oreck’s large floor attachment sucks up all of those fine dust particles in a single swoop. You can also use the floor attachment’s brush function to clean hard floors without scratching surfaces. The Oreck cleaner vacuums everything and leaves the floors looking immaculately clean.
If you encounter a stubborn patch of dirt then you just need to go over it a few times to agitate the dirt and the Oreck will do the rest. Usually, you can clean most areas in a single swoop. There is also a crevice tool for small gaps and a round brush for delicate surfaces such as newly fitted cabinets, lampshades and window sills.
The Oreck Commercial currently costs less than $90 and the replacement bags are very good value costing less than 40 cents per bag. This is a very affordable heavy-duty canister that is about the size of a shoebox. You can store the different attachments on the machine and 2 extra replacement bags can be kept inside the machine (where the vacuum bag goes) to save you the hassle of searching around for a spare bag.
#7. Bissell Hard Floor Expert Multi-Cyclonic Bagless Canister Vacuum, 1547
The final canister on our list is the Bissell Hard Floor Expert Multi-Cyclonic bagless vacuum. This is the ideal vacuum for anybody looking to switch from an upright to a canister.
If you’re tired of hauling around your large upright why not try out this lightweight, compact Bissell which is equipped with a range of attachments for the majority of house cleaning tasks.
Handy attachments include a crevice tool for small areas, an upholstery brush for couches and furniture, a hard floor cleaning head and a carpet cleaning head with spinning brushes. When the wand is attached to the cleaning head it can be pivoted to a virtually flat position so that you can reach beneath furniture and underneath bed frames. The suction strength is very powerful and suitable for all types of floors including thick carpets.
Dirt disposal is simple and the canister is designed in such a way that the process is quick and convenient. The Bissell seeks out and picks up a substantial amount of dirt in a short amount of time. It works its way through different floor types with great ease and provides an unswerving clean on both hard floors and carpets. When cleaning is done the cable can be retracted back into the machine with the push of the button, this saves you from bending your back unnecessarily.
The Bissell canister is conveniently portable for easier storage and the design is very user-friendly. The handle, that controls the wand, is very comfortable to use and the unit feels sturdy. Overall, the Bissell Hard Floor Expert exceeded my expectations because although it’s meant to be used specifically on hard flooring it also cleaned carpets to a very high standard.
That sums up our list of the best canister vacuum cleaners for 2021. Whether you’re considering a bagged or bagless machine or maybe you need a canister specifically for hard floors? There’s plenty of choice on our shortlist and I’m confident that you will find the perfect canister to suit your needs and your budget.
Vacuum cleaner manufacturers are constantly under pressure to improve suction performance whilst keeping their machines portable and lightweight but that’s good news for the customer because it means that you can buy better products at competitive prices.

What is the best suction vacuum cleaner for your home or apartment and how do you decide which one to buy? Are you tired of using low powered vacuums that never seem to get rid of the mess deep-rooted in your carpets? I’ve had my fair share of inferior vacuum cleaners and can share your frustration.
Whether you’ve got a large property or a small abode, you don’t need to put up with filthy floors. Find the right vacuum cleaner and it will serve you well for many years. Suction power is highly important to eliminate dirt and dust floating around, but other features such as manoeuvrability, weight, accessories and machine maintenance play an equally important role.
My friends call me the vacuum lady for a good reason, I’ve tested a lot of vacuum cleaners and I can say that suction performance varies massively. On one end of the spectrum, you’ll find plenty of cheap poor quality vacuums and on the other end, you’ll find expensive premiums that don’t always deliver.
Don’t worry because there’s a happy medium. After reading this review you’ll see that good vacuums are not difficult to source. I’ll break each section by machine type and reveal which ones have the best suction power to suit your requirements.
Best Suction Upright Vacuum Cleaner
It’s no surprise to see that upright vacuums are still a popular choice. They were the first mainstream design when vacuums were invented and most people like to stick to what they know.
Be careful though! If you choose the wrong machine you might be stuck with a bulky machine that is arduous to operate.
My favourite upright vacuum is the Dyson DC65. It’s sleek, extremely lightweight and houses the best features on a full-sized vacuum to provide a comprehensive cleaning solution.
It delivers 215 AW which is twice the suction power of its closest rival. The machine has a unique base plate that maximises contact with your floor for unbeatable suction.
Why should you consider the Dyson DC65? Because it’s easy to handle, ultra-portable and backed up by a strong brand that guarantees a reliable machine. A Dyson vacuum doesn’t lose suction, it’ll always work just as good as the day you first switched it on.
Best Suction Canister/ Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner
Cylinder or canister vacuums are portable cleaners that are easier to store in homes with limited space. They might be smaller than upright vacuums but provide an equivalent amount of suction power. If you’re looking for the perfect cylinder, I would suggest the Dyson DC39 vacuum cleaner which delivers 280AW of suction power.
The DC39 gives you the convenience of swivel steering thanks to the Dyson ball fitted at the chassis. It will never get stuck when travelling around a corner.
Dyson vacuums provide the best bagless technology over their rivals. The unique bin emptying mechanism has been improved to simplify dirt disposal. Simply press a button to release the dirt into your garbage can and prevent it from making contact with you.
The Dyson DC39might be a small machine but it’s fitted with premium HEPA filtration that you’ll appreciate from the moment you turn on the vacuum. The air smells fresher after within moments of usage. This vacuum is a wise choice if you are prone to airborne allergic reactions.
Best Suction Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
Dyson V8 has the strongest suction power in a cordless stick vacuum. The unit is incredibly portable and it delivers a maximum suction of 115 AW. It deep cleans floors with the direct-drive cleaner head that provides 150% more brush power and a separate soft roller cleaner is included specifically for hard flooring.
The V8 is unique to its rivals because it’s designed with HEPA filtration to filter out dust and allergens from the air. Just remember that the V8 vacuum weighs only 2.61kg, which makes it nimble and possible to clean all areas of your home. It provides the stick best suction on all floor types and high reaching areas.
Dyson V8 has the added advantage of switching between stick and handheld mode and is provided with plenty of accessories to clean stairs, car interiors, hard to reach areas i.e. tight gaps between and underneath furniture. A mini motorised tool, combination tool, rigid crevice tool and soft dusting brush are provided.
Most stick vacuums provide a maximum runtime of about 20 minutes but the Dyson V8 doubles that to 40 minutes runtime of powerful cleaning. The docking station can be mounted in an area close to high traffic rooms for immediate access to the vacuum. The dock not only provides a convenient storage solution, it charges the machine and stores additional accessories.
Best Suction Robot Vacuum Cleaner
Robot vacuums offer the convenience of autonomous floor cleaning. The Neato Robotics Botvac D80 is a robust cleaner with lots of handy functions and suction power to eliminate dirt that’s determined to stay hidden in your carpets.
It’s driven by a high powered Spinflow cleaning system that lifts more dirt than its competitors. I like the D-shape design that ensures all areas of the room are reachable including corners and along walls.
The D80 robot requires little help and is easy to maintain. It will travel between rooms seeking out dirt and when the battery is running low it will automatically head back to the charging dock to power up, it will then pick up where it left off.
In addition to high suction power, the D80 vacuum is equipped with a spiral blade brush that is adapted for all floors and a combo brush specially designed to pick up troublesome hairs.
The dirt canister has a larger capacity of 0.7 litres. It holds more dirt so that the D80 robot requires less frequent emptying. The bin design has been improved for easier dirt disposal, all you need to do is lift the bin from the top of the machine and empty it in a matter of a few seconds.
Conclusion
When selecting a new machine, suction power is important but it’s also important to choose a reliable vacuum cleaner that houses a good set of features and user convenience. The above short list should help you decide what is the best suction vacuum cleaner for your home or apartment.
Are you considering one of the vacuums from the above list or do you already own one? Please leave your comments in the section below and thanks for reading.
Who Makes The Best Vacuum Cleaner? This is the most common question that I get asked by prospective customers looking to buy the ultimate vacuum cleaner. Before we select the best brands we need to first look at what type of vacuum cleaner is best for your home. Here are a few questions you need to ask yourself:
Do you require a cordless or a corded vacuum cleaner?
Do you need a stick, upright, canister or handheld vacuum cleaner?
Do you want a vacuum that is lightweight and quieter to operate?
How much are you willing to spend on your new vacuum cleaner?
Vacuum Cleaner Budget
Paying more money for a premium vacuum doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get the best features.
After reviewing a countless amount of vacuums I’ve found budget vacuum cleaners that can sometimes outperform their pricier counterparts.
Personally, I like the Dyson brand because when you buy one of their vacuums you’ll notice the difference in performance straight away. You want a vacuum cleaner that is easy to handle, the machine shouldn’t weigh a tonne and of course, it should never lose suction.
Time-Saving Vacuum Cleaners
If you struggle to find the time to vacuum clean regularly I would highly recommend a robot vacuum that can be programmed to clean whilst you’re out and about. Here is a list of the Best Robot cleaners that we’ve tested and found to be just as effective as doing the job yourself.
If you can’t decide whether to buy canister or upright vacuum cleaner, why not choose a 2-in-1 cleaner that combines the power of an upright with the portability of a canister cleaner. For this, I’d highly recommend the Shark brand.
The Shark Navigator Lift-Away is a good example of great functionality and convenience fitted into a single machine.
If you are looking a low priced 2-in-1 vacuum with identical performance as an expensive premium then Shark Navigator Lift Away Pro NV356E is suited for the job. The transformation between upright and canister mode lets you make light work of cleaning stairs, carpets, hard flooring and hard-to-reach areas.
Cordless Suction Power
I’ll be honest that when I first heard about battery-powered vacuum cleaners I wasn’t convinced that they could produce enough suction power to lift dust, carpet fluff and stubborn dirt.
After testing several brands I recommend staying away from cheap cordless cleaners and pay a little extra for a Dyson V6 handheld vacuum. Why? Because the V6 is very powerful and not as expensive as the Dyson V8 but delivers similar performance albeit a slightly shorter battery life.
I found myself using the Dyson V6 more than my full sized vacuum and achieving similar cleaning results. You can mount the V6 stick vacuum on a nearby wall in the most frequented room and you’ve got immediate access to a powerful vacuum.
The wall bracket ensures that the battery is always fully charged and ready. Its great to see it at work considering how small and light it is.
Cordless Upright Vacuum Cleaner
If you’d prefer an upright vacuum cleaner but hate power cables getting in the way, the Bissell AirRam is a unique cordless upright that weighs just 3.5 kgs. It’s classed as a full-sized vacuum cleaner but it doesn’t come with the bulk of one.
Bissell AirRam runs for 40 minutes on a single charge, which is more than enough time to vacuum the entire house without worrying about the battery running out halfway through cleaning.
The machine is bagless and is fitted with a special bin that compresses the dirt to avoid clouds of dust escaping back into the air. Simply slide the ejector arm in one single motion to empty the bin. I like the LED lights fitted on the front of the cleaner head to help see dirt hidden in dark areas.
Portable Canister Vacuum Cleaners
Canister vacuum cleaners are a popular choice for those looking for a compact machine that is easy to store but shares the equivalent power of an upright vacuum. The Dyson DC39 Animal is a remarkable compact vacuum that delivers 257 AW of suction power.
At its base, the DC39 animal, swivels on top of the Dyson ball for the best manoeuvrability. The machine is certified Asthma and Allergy Friendly and is fitted with washable lifetime filters.
What stands out the most is the set of accessories provided- the turbine head works on most floor types including thick carpets and hard floors, the combination tool and stair tool ensure that every part of your home is accessible. DC39 Animal is compact, stylish and provides a comprehensive cleaning solution for large homes and small apartments.
Best Corded Upright Vacuum Cleaner
I recently reviewed the Dyson DC65 Upright cleaner and was so impressed by the machine’s performance that I bought one for my parents.
Dyson has balanced the weight of the machine and the Dyson ball to give the best handling that I’ve ever experienced on a full-sized upright.
If you’re worried that stairs and high reaching areas are hard to clean with an upright cleaner, the DC65 features a detachable extendable hose specifically for tight gaps, ceilings and stairways.
It lifts double the amount of dirt than its closest rival and purifies the air with its HEPA filters as the air travels through the machine. Dyson gave us bagless technology and Root Cyclone Power- if you’re expecting to use the best, DC65 will not disappoint.
Conclusion
We’ve covered a lot and I’m confident that you’ve found a vacuum cleaner to suit your lifestyle and home. Choosing a vacuum cleaner can be tricky business, it’s much easier to first decide on the type of machine suited for your home, to decide who makes the best vacuum cleaner.
Are you thinking of buying a vacuum from the above list or do you already own one? Please could you leave your comments in the section below. I’d love to hear from you.

I’ll kick off this post by stating that a canister vacuum is a must-have because it’s easier to handle than an upright. What is the top rated compact canister vacuum cleaner for hard floors when there’s so many to choose from?
A canister gives you the immediate advantage of light weight convenience and handling especially when trying to reach underneath furniture and tables. The Miele Compact C1 Pure Suction makes all this possible with its uncompromised cleaning approach.
C-Series Background
Before we get into the review I’d like to give you a bit of general background about Miele canister vacuums so you can see where the Compact C1 fits within the product range.
Miele’s canisters come in 3 different series with various models under each series. There are a few differences between the series so I’ll try to make it simple to identify them and how to know which series is best for your needs.
The C1 is the standard series and the Compact C1 Pure Suction is part of this family. The C1 models carry Miele’s great craftsmanship but with slightly fewer features than the C2 and C3 series, but that’s not to say that they are inferior.
You will find Miele’s air clean sealed system in most C1 models but they do not have the silencing feature to lower motor noise. Taking this into account, the C1 is still quieter than rival machines even without the silencing technology.
The C2 is equipped with motor silencing for a quieter cleaning experience and is smaller than the C1 and C3 models. The compact body means you can steer it better and lift it around between rooms easier but the compromise is that the dirt canister is smaller thus won’t hold as much dirt.
The C3 model is Miele’s most comprehensive model. It is dubbed the complete series because it sports all the premium features that the series has to offer but this means you will be paying top dollar, so you should really consider whether you would actually use the added extras.
The suction power is adjusted using push button controls rather than rotary dial (I wouldn’t pay extra for this). On certain C3 models you can adjust the suction power on the hose whilst other models are equipped with an auto-setting to take care of the suction settings automatically. The C3 models are fitted with the best graded filters offered by the brand.
Each series has a range of models that are equipped with different tools for specific cleaning requirements. Each series will provide a model that houses a floor tool for hard flooring, a model with a turbine brush to tackle carpets and rugs, and a model with an electric power tool which can agitate dirt more efficiently than a standard turbine tool.
Miele has decided to keep all their vacuum cleaners bagged. But is that a bad thing? This topic has been argued for many years and my opinion is that its a matter of preference. Modern innovations in vacuum technology mean that both variants are extremely efficient and the differences are insignificant.
Some users prefer bagged units because they don’t want to come into contact with dust when emptying, but most modern bagless canisters are designed with a quick release mechanism at the base of the bin to ensure that dust doesn’t get everywhere when emptying it. It’s purely down to what you prefer.
How does the Miele Compact C1 Pure stack up?
Is the Compact C1 among the best rated canister vacuum cleaners? I’ll take you through some of the great features you can enjoy from this stylish robust vacuum such as the AirClean sealed filtration system to ensure that trapped dust never escapes. One of the obvious advantages of buying the C1 is that it’s cheaper to buy than the C2 and C3 but with only a slight compromise to features and capabilities.
Compact C1 Suction Power
For starters, the suction power can be adjusted by a knob on the unit to suit different floor types. Its equipped with a powerful 1,200-watt Miele-Made Vortex Motor that can be adjusted to clean low-pile carpets and rugs, delicate floors and smooth hard flooring. The AllTeQ Combination floor tool can be seamlessly adapted to clean different floors using a rocker switch found on the left of the cleaner head.
Benefits of a Dirt Bag
The dirt bag housed within the C1 canister is a good size and holds over 4 liters of dirt. The average bag life is 2 to 3 months with regular usage. A self-locking seal collar ensures that no dust escapes back into the atmosphere during removal and disposal.
The bag is designed to efficiently collect the maximum amount of dirt possible using a soft structure technology. This is not Miele’s way of trying to sell you a vacuum and although I prefer bagless vacuums, Miele’s bags are top notch i.e. no musky smells, clogs or breakages. These are “solid bags” if there’s such a thing.
Unless you are considering a Dyson vacuum, bagless vacuums need to be researched before making a purchase. Even though you will save money from not needing to replace bags you might face the issue of clogged up filters. Washable filters will degrade over time and need replacing eventually. The condition of a filter massively affects suction performance. Thankfully, a bagged vacuum addresses all these issues and you never need to worry about clogged filters.
The filtration system on the Compact C1 Pure Suction is on par with the pricier models. There are 4 filters housed within the unit including a motor filter, an exhaust filter, a dust compartment filter. Miele will also supply you will a new set of filters when you buy theirreplacement dust bags, which is good value for money.
The filtration system will catch virtually all allergens and dirt particles floating around. If you suffer from allergies or would like to breathe cleaner then I’d recommend this unit.
Compact C1 Accessories
The Compact C1 Pure Suction is perfect for bare floors and low pile carpets around the house thanks to the convenient multi-floor Combination Floorhead (STB 285-3) supplied. In addition to the floor tool you will also find the following tools:
A dusting brush for shelves and lamps.
An upholstery tool for sofas and drapes.
A crevice nozzle for tight spaces and gaps.
A VarioClip, located at the base of the hose, can hold all of the above accessories for added convenience.
C1 Carpet Cleaning Performance
The Compact C1 Pure Suction is designed mainly for cleaning hard floors but you can use it on certain carpets as well.
It will clean low-pile carpets and rugs effectively but if your carpets are deep piled or you have shag rugs then I would suggest searching for an alternative canister by checking out the list of our top 7 best canister vacuums.
Compact C1 Pricing
We already know that Miele’s vacuums are on the top end of the price bracket but what are you actually getting? Miele pride themselves in leading craftsmanship. This is German engineering for high-end domestic appliances and Miele does not cut corners.
Where other brands will try to win customers over on budget pricing, Miele will battle to be the best in engineering high-quality products. Miele vacuums are so robust that they are tested and designed to last for up to 20 years which regular usage. How many low budget vacuums would you have replaced in 20 years?
Pros
Ultra light and compact.
Powerful 1,200-watt Motor.
Entry level model with the same high quality expected from Miele.
6-setting suction control via a Rotary Dial.
AirClean Sealed System to trap allergens.
A good cleaning range of 29.5 feet.
A long electrical cord with automatic rewind.
Cons
Lack of motor silencing technology found on C2 and C3 models.
Where to Buy The Miele C1 Pure Suction Vacuum Cleaner

From the moment you unbox the machine, you can immediately tell that it’s a sturdy unit built from strong materials. Miele is so confident in their vacuum cleaners that they grade them with up to 20 years of usage. Yes, 20 years!

Here is a quick summary of 7 of the best canister vacuum cleaners to suit your budget and cleaning requirements. Why get a canister? It has the power of machines twice or 3 times its size but the advantage of portability and it’s multifunctional.
Canisters provide the same premium features found in upright vacuums such as cyclone power, air filtration and bagless convenience. Let’s see what’s on offer.
#1. Best Bagless Filterless Canister
It no surprise that the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Canister is at the top of our list. Why? Because Dyson has created a vacuum cleaner that doesn’t require filters.
The science behind filterless is named Cinetic which catches tiny dust particles that usually congest standard vacuums.
The filters have been replaced by cinetic tips that vibrate incredibly fast (5000 times per second) to sift out micro dirt particles from the air.
Dyson sets the bar once again and this technology is a result of years of research. Their cinetic tips trap dust, mould, pollen and allergens to deliver fresh clean air.
Best Features:
Expect heaps of suction power, 230aw to be exact.
A large 1.6 litre bagless dirt bin comes as standard. Dirt is easily ejected in seconds with one press of a button.
The Dyson ball ensures the best steering around corners and the canister will get back up automatically when toppled.
A good range of accessories provided including a carbon fibre turbine head, combination tool, stair tool and tangle-free turbine tool.
Lightweight machine weighing in at only 7.7kg.
A long 6.6 metre cable for better reach.
Rating 9.5 / 10

BISSELL Zing Rewind is a small bagless canister vacuum that gives big results. It has enjoyed plenty of positive reviews from satisfied customers because of its compact body and whole-home cleaning system.
Everything you need from a vacuum cleaner is packed into this unit for a low cost of under $55.
What can you expect from the Bissell Zing? It provides high-performance cleaning, especially on hard floors, but works equally as good on carpets.
The 3 stage filtration collects microscopic dust and particles and the filters are washable to drive down the cost of maintenance further.
Best Features:
The Zing Rewind is adaptable to various surfaces and transitions between different floor types at the touch of a button.
Amazingly, cyclonic suction is included at a low-cost price. Cyclone power helps to separate dust and debris from the air. We like that the suction power can also be adjusted to tackle anything from thick carpets or delicate floors.
Bissell Zing Rewind is conveniently bagless. The dirt bin can be emptied in a matter of seconds. It’s ergonomically designed with features such as a retractable cable, a carrying handle to easily lift the unit and a light compact design that weighs a modest 5kgs.
Cleaning accessories include a combination crevice tool and dusting brush for tight gaps. You don’t need to worry about replacement parts as filters can be washed and re-used.
Dyson DC39 Animal canister vacuum cleaner is a great machine for households with pets but I found that it’s equally as good for cleaning car interiors.
Why? Dyson has packed plenty of ergonomic features that make it much easier to use a canister vacuum in confined spaces.
Root cyclone technology comes as standard. This ensures that you get the best possible suction power from a small machine.
The 10-metre long-reach electric cable helps the unit to manoeuvre around different sides of the car without the cable running short.
Best features:
Emptying the dirt bin couldn’t be any easier- it can be done in a few seconds with the simple press of a button. The DC39 features a large capacity dirt bin for less frequent emptying.
We like the Dyson Ball technology that provides the best steering found on any vacuum cleaner. You can move the unit with pinpoint precision and if at any point you topple it over, it will get back up automatically.
A great range of accessories including a combination crevice and dusting tool for small gaps between car seats and to capture dust on the dashboard. The stair tool works well on car floor mats as well.
The onboard filters are the best in their class. They are washable and will never need replacing during the lifetime of the machine.

Where Can I Buy The Dyson DC39 Animal CanisterVacuum Cleaner?
The Oreck Compact is one of the smallest canister vacuum cleaners. You could easily mistake it for a garden appliance because of its unusual shape and colour. Don’t let this put you off- the little machine is powerful and built like a tank.
I’m gobsmacked how the company managed to compress a fully functional vacuum cleaner in a body that weighs just 2.2kgs.
It’s designed to be carried or strapped over your shoulder- you’ll hardly notice it’s there. The company claims there’s enough suction power to lift a 16Ib bowling ball. Why do we love the Oreck vacuum? It’s great for small areas that bigger vacuum cleaners would struggle to reach. Use it in workshops, small sheds and spring cleaning the loft.
Best Features:
A good range of accessories provided for quick and easy cleaning. A crevice tool for those tight spaces. A dusting brush for blinds, lamp shades and drapes. A stair tool and multi-floor cleaning head.
Oreck is designed to work best with their hypoallergenic dirt bags that capture dust and ensures that it doesn’t escape back into the atmosphere.
You’ll find a convenient access door for the dirtbag which is fastened by a lock that maintains a secure dust free seal.
The portable size makes it versatile to clean areas that are difficult to access with a full-sized vacuum, underneath furniture, any type of floor and hard to reach areas.
That sums up our list of the latest and greatest canister vacuum cleaners available right now. Whatever your cleaning requirements, there’s a canister suited for you. It doesn’t matter if you’re a pet owner, on a tight budget or you’re looking for suction power that will lift the carpet off the floor, we’ve got you covered.
