Setting up Neato Botvac for first-time use.
The Botvac Connected is relatively easy to set up. I docked it onto the charger and linked it to my smartphone through the Neato app.
The linking process is quick- the Botvac will search for your Wi-Fi network and after a few attempts it will connect. This process took about 5 minutes including installing the app on my smartphone.
You’ll need to set up a Neato account, add the robot’s serial number and connect it to your Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz (not 5.8 GHz) network, then do the final link using the robots LCD display. You will only need to perform this setup once. During my time with Neato Botvac, the Wi-Fi connection never got interrupted and was stable throughout. During setup, the app will also prompt you if you want to name your robot.
Charging Neato Botvac
Thankfully the Neato robot comes fully charged straight out of the box so that it can hit the ground running. When the robot is charging, the 2 big buttons towards the front of the machine will flash at different speeds (slow → quick → solid).
The colours will also change from orange to white to show how much the battery has charged. This makes it more convenient to keep an eye on the level of charge without needing to look at the LCD screen on the robot. You can also see the charging progress using the Neato app.
Neato Botvac’s Initial run
For first time use, I selected the clean house option and watched the Botvac come to life, undock from the charging station and map out the surrounding area. The mapping process is relatively quick and once it’s complete, the robot switches on the brush roller and begins its cleaning journey.
I observed the machine for a while then left it to work independently. The machine noise is considerably quieter than a large vacuum cleaner and is quiet enough for you to talk to someone whilst the robot is working in the same room, you can also watch t.v. or take a phone call whilst the Botvac is close by.
The robot comes with 2 rollers. The combo roller, which comes attached to the machine, is not as noisy as the blade roller.
The first time you turn on the Botvac to clean it will follow a random pattern. I was impressed with how the robot avoided knocking into obstacles. After a few additional runs the Neato robot began following a logical pattern once it started figuring out the room layouts a bit better.
On its initial run, it took the robot approximately 1 hour to clean the entire first floor, which has a total of 1500 square feet.
It then ran for another 15 minutes before alerting that the battery was running low- at this point the robot returned to its base to recharge. If your house has a lot of rooms, its best to monitor the robot in case it gets lost and can’t make it back to the base.
Once docked the “spot-clean” buttons will light up and flash orange to indicate that the battery is charging. I like to empty the bin whilst the machine is recharging and the first time I took out the bin I couldn’t believe how much dirt and hair the Neato robot had picked up. The dirt was disgusting but I was thankful that the robot was vacuuming thoroughly.
The Neato Botvac will charge for roughly an hour then come back to life and go back where it left off to finish the job. I like that it remembers where to continue from if it has to stop and recharge in between cleans. The robot will notify you when it has completed a job and then returns to the charging base.
As mentioned before, it’s easier to empty the bin whenever the robot is back at the base recharging, it’s also a good idea to check the roller brush for hair and lint which are easily removable using the cleaning tools supplied. This whole process takes less than 5 minutes. When fully charged, the robot will go into standby mode where the LCD display will switch off and the lights at the front of the machine will stay a solid white to indicate that the battery is full.
Neato Botvac Cleaning Results
My carpets and wooden floors were noticeably cleaner after that the Neato Botvac had its way with them. Each time the robot came back to recharge, I would take out the bin to find a fresh batch of dirt, dust and hair that put my cleaning efforts to shame. I would say that the robot can’t completely replace a full sized vacuum primary because it can’t vacuum stairs but I still think this is a small price to pay when compared to the benefits of regularly clean floors.
I honestly think that the robot needs time to learn its surroundings because each time it performed a run, the carpets would look cleaner than the previous run. The lines in the carpets showed that the robot was getting better at calculating efficient routes thus taking less time to clean each room whilst delivering better results after each run.
After a few weeks I could leave the Botvac on its own as a fully automatic vacuum without worrying that the battery would die before it got home or that it would get stuck somewhere.
After a few weeks, I noticed that I didn’t need to empty the bin as frequently because the floors were getting a regular clean- this was a reassuring sign that the Botvac was truly working hard to keep the floors hair-free and dirt-free. The floors won’t get as dirty as they would if you were cleaning just once a week. You could say that I was rather impressed by Neato’s performance.
I found that the combo roller was better at cleaning carpets compared to the blade roller, but it needed cleaning frequently to remove hairs and carpet fibres. The blade is good at cleaning both carpets and hard floors but is slightly louder

All you need to do is attach the supplied cleaning pad, add some water and the robot will dutifully choose the appropriate setting, based on the type of pad attached, and swiftly be on its way. The machine is adapted to clean various hard surfaces such as laminate, tile, stone and wooden floors.

The jet 240 is compact and adapted to clean awkward small areas. We’ve got a galley kitchen that is narrow and rather small. The robot can clean the kitchen efficiently and methodically without any problems. The machine has a compact cube shape to get beneath furniture and get into corners.
Braava Jet 240 Is Always Ready
To begin cleaning simply attach a cleaning pad, add some water into the unit and select “Clean”. The Braava will detect the type of pad attached to it and select the appropriate cleaning function i.e. a Damp Sweep, Wet Mop or Dry Sweep. It really is as simple as that.
Braava Jet Stops You Getting in Contact With Dirt
The iRobot cleaner is designed to help you eliminate getting into contact with dirt collected on the cleaning pads. When the machine has completed mopping the floor there is an eject button to get rid of the disposable dirty pad directly into the trash without needing to physically touch it. iRobot Braava jet 240 Performance
I spent some time testing the Braava Jet 240 around the house and used it to mop laminate, wooden and tiled floors. For starters, you can’t add any type of cleaning solution to the water in the machine as the Jet 240 is designed to clean solely with water and vibrating power of the cleaning head. If you decide to use any type of cleaning solution or disinfectant, just squirt it directly on the floor just before the robot begins mopping. No problem!
Thankfully the robot comes with pads that are washable to cut down on the cost of replacement. The Braava Jet 240 catches a lot of hair and dirt as it works through the floor. I have a dog that sheds a lot of hair and the robot caught all of it.
The mopping robot works perfectly in small to medium-sized rooms. I used it in the living room which is larger than the rest of the rooms and the washable pads coped cleaning the large area. It’s best to use it daily, cleaning a room per day in rotation.
You can either launder the washable pads on a quick wash or spray off the dirt with a disinfectant at the end of each day and let the pads dry overnight.
The washable pads are long lasting- I used them daily for more than 3 months and they didn’t show any signs of wear and tear. The washable pads will save you money in the long run compared to the disposable pads that need replacing frequently.
A minor issue that I noticed with the Jet 240 is that it occasionally stops when it finishes a cycle even if the water inside the unit has not finished and the battery has not run out, apparently this is because the robot was designed to mop small rooms. To get around this minor issue, just pour a bit more water into the robot and press the clean button for the machine to carry on mopping until the battery finishes.
The Braava Jet 240 is very low maintenance, the Jets hardly require cleaning out. I’ll wipe them every now and again but this takes less than 5 minutes.
Outstanding mopping performance and low maintenance have resulted in a robot that scores very highly. The iRobot Braava jet 240 is a popular cleaning machine that takes away the fuss of mopping floors.
iRobot Braava jet 240 costs less than $200 which is a small price to pay for the convenience this robot provides.
Prior to getting the Braava robot, I’d avoid mopping floors unless there was a spillage or dried food stuck to the floor. Since introducing the Braava cleaner into our house there has been a remarkable difference in the cleanliness of our hard floors. I’ll often get visitors asking whether we’ve recently had new flooring put in.

Setting Up RoboVac 11c
There is no assembly required for the RoboVac 11c, it will work straight out of the box. It is easy to set it up on the Wi-Fi network through the EufyHome app. The Robot looks stylish and isn’t a machine that you feel you need hide out of sight when not in use.
It can be linked to Amazon Alexa, this was one of the first features that I tried out. I linked RoboVac 11c to my Amazon Echo speaker and it responded immediately to my voice prompts. How cool is it that you can literally tell the robot to start vacuuming?
RoboVac 11c is Very Quiet.
RoboVac 11c operates very quietly. The noise levels are remarkably low and will not frighten pets. In fact, my dog hardly notices the robot as it passes by. It’s hard to believe that the Eufy machine cleans so quietly.
RoboVac 11c side brushes
The side brushes can be found on either side of the machine near the primary suction brush, the 2 brushes offer a more efficient way to clean on both the right and left side without the robot needing to change direction. Each side brush does a stellar job sweeping dirt from corners and room edges.
RoboVac 11c is an improvement over its predecessors. In addition to connecting it to WiFi, there is also a good level of control through the EufyHome app and compatibility with Amazon Alexa, which I’ve found to be a big bonus.
Scheduling the robot is easy. There is a 7-day schedule that allows you to specify the time you want it to start cleaning. You can skip certain days or get the robot to clean daily.
RoboVac 11c Automatic Docking
The Eufy robot will conveniently return back to the docking station when cleaning is complete or if it needs to recharge the battery. Unfortunately, it will not resume any incomplete jobs when charging is finished- the robot will need to start a new job.
RoboVac 11c Navigation
The RoboVac 11c is equipped with advanced obstacle detection and will easily avoid collisions. When the path is clear, the robot will maintain a steady speed but will slow down when it gets close to a wall or obstacle. It will reduce the speed until it is very close to the object, then it will change direction and continue on a different route.
RoboVac will occasionally knock into walls but not enough to damage the machine or furniture. The object detection is not perfect but it works much better than most of the robots that I’ve tested.
RoboVac 11c Battery life.
Testing the battery in real life situations gave a total battery runtime of 90 minutes when the suction power was at a normal level. Although it is not the 100 minutes claimed by the manufacturer, I still think this is an adequate running time for the robot to clean most areas.

My dog sheds a lot of hair and I’m always in need of a good vacuum to get rid of all that hair. Vacuuming animal hair is a constant chore and my dog enjoys chilling out in the living room with the rest of the family where hairs gather up quite quickly.

iRobot Roomba 690 Vacuuming Robot Performance
If you run a busy household and can’t seem to find enough time to vacuum then the Roomba 690 is for you. If you own pets that shed a lot of hair you’ll be delighted with the amount of dirt this robot will suck up.
I own a dog and have 2 kids that are very messy. When you turn on Roomba for the first time you’ll be surprised how much dirt collects in its tray (even if you’ve recently vacuumed). It’s incredible to see the type of dirt it sucks up from areas that would have normally been overlooked.
Roomba 690 will reach room edges and corners and clean these areas effectively with the 3 rotating brushes whilst travelling underneath furniture. It will travel beneath bedframes, closets, dressers, couches, tables, etc.
The type of dirt it collects from these areas is not for the faint-hearted. Normally I wouldn’t have the time to clean so thoroughly with my canister vacuum, Roomba 690 is an appreciated addition to the family.
This robot vacuum cleans carpets and hard floors to an equally high standard. If your house is quite large it won’t clean it all in a single session, but when it detects a low battery it will go back to the docking station to recharge. Let Roomba 690 clean daily for a week and your floors will be cleaner than they’ve ever been.
The iRobot HOME App is very easy to use and I like that you can monitor the robot’s progress through your phone (whilst at work) and tell it to go back to the docking station or change the robot’s cleaning schedule.
If the robot finds itself in trouble it will beep to alert you that it needs your help. If it gets stuck somewhere that it can’t come out, it has an auto-shutting mechanism which powers down the machine until you come and rescue it. You can locate the robot using the Home app.
Gaps, Barriers and Clutter
The gap between your furniture and the floor needs to be at least 3 3/4″ for the robot to navigate underneath.
When the Roomba detects an area with a higher dirt level, such as high traffic areas, it will concentrate on that section and spiral outwards in circles to give a great clean. This feature can also be manually activated through the app.
The Roomba 690 comes with a tiny virtual wall barrier cube which you can position in an area that you want the machine to avoid. The virtual barrier can either be configured to a straight line or a circular pattern.
As mention earlier, the Roomba robot is capable of finding its way back home to the docking station unless it gets stuck somewhere and runs out of battery whilst trying to set itself free. Try to keep rooms free of clutter so that the machine can roam freely and clean efficiently. After a few weeks of robot cleaning and learning the floor layout Roomba finds its way back to the dock with no issues.
Can Roomba 690 Replace Your Full-Sized Vacuum?
Although the Roomba 690 can’t completely replace a standard vacuum, there are huge benefits of owning one to tackle the daily mess that you can’t keep up with regularly. It is especially useful for eliminating pet hair and cleaning busy areas like the kitchen. If you live in a smaller house approximately 1400 sq. ft and is clutter-free, you might get away with this as your only vacuum cleaner.
When emptying the tray make sure you do this in the garbage can outside to avoid dusting flying everywhere.
There’s an extra filter provided but you can clean the original filter by tapping it against the can to loosen dirt. You’ll also get a hair cutting accessory to remove hair from the brush.
Roomba 690 Cleaning Pattern
The Roomba robot doesn’t necessarily clean in a grid pattern. The robot improves over time especially when you program it to clean daily. Give it a week and you will notice the Roomba would have figured out an optimum pattern that resembles closest to a grid-like route.
Wi-Fi Function
The Wi-Fi feature is great for scheduling a cleaning routine that works best for you. It will also help you to find the robot if gets lost or stuck somewhere and runs out of battery before it returns to the docking station. You can also start a random clean when you’re not at home if required.
Knocking Into Obstacles
Roomba 690 is fitted with anti-collision sensors but it is gentle if it does bump into furniture or baseboards. I’ve not found any visible damage or scratches to furnishings. The robot is also kind to hard floors, to date it has not scratched our wooden floors.
Machine Noise
Noise level on the Roomba 690 is perfectly acceptable. It is possible to watch TV or take a call whilst it’s cleaning in the same room. My dog is not frightened by the noise of the robot and will hardly notice as it passes by. This is not the case with my larger vacuum.
Multi-Floor Cleaning
Roomba 690 will vacuum to a high standard on both hard flooring and carpets. It will switch between floor types effortlessly and isn’t deterred by metal transition strips.
The multi-floor brush is incredibly efficient at adapting to different floors.

What Can You Expect From The New Ecovacs N79s Robot?
In addition to Smart App Controls you now get Alexa compatibility so that you take advantage of voice prompts through your Alexa speaker to control the robot. Cool.
The ECOVACS App provides customisable cleaning schedules that you can keep an eye on even when you’re not at home. It will also send you error notifications and the robot’s performance status.
The N79S is driven by a 3-Stage Cleaning process with optimum suction power, a primary brush with a helix design for deep cleaning and extensive side brushes that capture a great amount of dirt.
The navigation system provides the most advanced route guidance built by Ecovacs to date. The robot can adapt to 4 different cleaning modes depending on the task or floor type.
The battery now lasts even longer and gives the N79s a total running time of 1.7 hours thanks to the high-grade Lithium battery.
The vacuum has a maximum power of 1000 Pa yet it operates quietly at a pleasing ~67-70 dbA sound level to minimise noise interruption.

N79s Alexa Voice Command
Alexa speakers are a hands-free speaker that you command with your voice to control devices around your home i.e. lighting, heating, music, ordering groceries etc. They are a fast-growing trend and it’s good to see that the technology has extended to floor cleaning. The N79S vacuum is compatible with Alexa.
Once it’s linked to your Alexa device, you can simply ask the DEEBOT robot to start or stop vacuuming with a voice command. And you can also tell it to go back to its docking station to recharge.
N79s Ecovacs App
The robot vacuum is also controllable through the Ecovacs App which can be downloaded for free on Apple & Android devices. Inside the app you can change cleaning modes, check on the robots performance status, current location and set up a cleaning schedule that works best for you. You don’t even need to be at home to monitor and control your robot.
Don’t worry if you don’t own a device that is compatible with the ECOVACS App or own an Alexa speaker. The N79S is also shipped with a remote control to command the robot.
N79s is a Clever Robot
Each home is different and the floor cleaning requirements will differ between households. The N79s robot uses Smart Motion technology to automatically detect the best cleaning mode for the task at hand.
In addition to the auto-clean function, there are 3 extra cleaning modes: Spot Mode concentrates on a specific area to clean stubborn dirt and Edge Mode will focus on floor edges and corners.

Versatile Cleaning
The slim body enables the N79s robot to travel beneath furniture and vacuum areas that are difficult to reach. The robust air filtration system traps dust and airborne particles as the air is drawn into the machine and comes out cleaner on the other end.
Although robot vacuums are not yet a complete substitute for standard vacuum cleaners, they are a step in the right direction at minimising the time needed for regular cleaning. What Types of Floor Can N79s Clean?
The Deebot N79s performs best on hard floors, tiles, laminate, wooden floors and light coloured low pile carpets. Cleaning performance is not as effective on thick or dark coloured carpets.
N79s Low Noise Level
As mentioned earlier the Deebot N79S runs quietly at a comfortable ~67 dbA with standard suction and ~70 dbA with maximum suction. The low sound level means that it’s possible to talk on the phone or watch your favourite movie without disturbance whilst the robot is vacuuming in the same room.
Deebot N79s Battery Charging
The Robot will automatically return to the docking station to recharge when it detects a low battery. The charging time is between 3-4 hours.
The machine is fitted with a high-quality Li-ion 2600 mAH battery which allows the machine to clean for 100 minutes when fully charged.

What’s The Difference Between Deebot N79 & Deebot N79S?
The DEEBOT N79S is fitted with improvements to the already successful DEEBOT N79. The N79S includes a Maximum power option which boosts the suction by 50% to target high traffic areas and dirt that is harder to clean.
There are now more ways to connect with the robot vacuum thanks to the ECOVACS app and inbuilt Alexa integration so that you can command the robot using an Amazon Echo speaker.
How Did DEEBOT N79S Perform Around The House?
We live in a 3 bedroomed house with 2 kids and a dog. The house is split into 3 levels and has a combination of tiles, wooden floors and carpets. When I received the Deebot N79S it was easy to set up and connected effortlessly to the ECOVACS app on my iPhone.
I got the robot straight to work and watched it perform a test run on the ground floor (kitchen + living room).
The Deebot robot worked incredibly hard, especially when cleaning corners and edges, which looked immaculate afterwards. It got stuck in between a small coffee table but promptly reversed out and continued on an alternative route.
I underestimated how thorough the ECOVACS robot would clean my floors. I was sold on its high performance after the test run. If you want to get the most out of the N79S, leave it to roam freely and figure out its surroundings- you will get the maximum benefit by doing this.
Don’t worry if it misses a spot, the robot will return and make sure that it cleans everywhere. N79S doesn’t follow a specific cleaning pattern and takes it’s time to ensure it has vacuumed all areas. Leave the machine to carry out its duties and you will return to find spotless floors.
Deebot N79S does struggle distinguishing dark furniture and can often knock into them, but the knocks are gentle and will not damage furniture. The robot will beep if it gets stuck somewhere and can’t get out. The machine rarely struggles to find and return to the docking station unless the dock is located quite far away.

What I like the most about this robot vacuum is that Ecovacs Robotics has paid attention to ease of use and made it extremely easy to operate and interact with the N79S. They’ve done away with frustratingly complex features and focused on the key functions: high-performance cleaning and easy scheduling.
The N79s is currently the best Deebot robot vacuum cleaner. It vacuums better than previous models- your carpets will always be fresh when you walk into the house after a long day. The smart navigation is among the best, which results in quicker cleaning times.
If you are looking for a robot vacuum with great performance and doesn’t need constant looking after then you should consider ECOVACS Deebot N79s.
It will reliably find its way back to the charging dock when the job is complete or if the battery needs topping up.
I like the low profile design which allows the robot to navigate underneath furniture and seek out dirt in areas that are normally overlooked. The ECOVACS app is extremely useful whenever you need to change or schedule in a new program and it doesn’t matter where you are, you have immediate access to your robot.
