If you’re struggling to vacuum your home regularly I can help you find the best time-saving vacuum cleaners to keep on top of a dirty home. A regular cleaning schedule mostly depends on the type of vacuum cleaner you choose to buy. There are some handy solutions out there even if you own a pet/s or have kids running around.
Most of us have crazy busy lives and it’s often difficult to sort out our homes. Our biggest gripe is dirty floors. It doesn’t take much for the kids to bring dirt into the house or for pets to shed their hair everywhere.
After a busy day, the last thing I want to do is take out the vacuum cleaner, I’ve got just about enough energy to cook the evening meal! Thankfully there are two great solutions to help with vacuuming. Our recommendations will ensure that your carpets and floors are constantly cleaned. For this scenario, you can either choose complete automation or choose a vacuum cleaner that is incredibly quick to use.
Automated Vacuum Cleaning
This is the age of robot vacuum cleaners. I started seeing these little machines popping up several years ago but up until recently, their features were limited. Manufacturers have improved robot vacuum technology to include ultra-convenient features such as automated scheduling and automatic self-charging.
If you want to save yourself a heap of time I’d highly recommend that you buy a robot vacuum cleaner so that you have one less thing to worry about. Why do I rate robot cleaners so highly? Because they pack a lot of suction power inside a compact body and require little help to get on with the job.
Not all robot vacuums are created equally. Avoid cheap brands that are more trouble than they’re worth.
One of biggest issue that customers complain about is poor quality batteries on inferior models. I would recommend buying your robot from brands like Eufy, Neato, iLife, Ecovacs and obviously Dyson (if you can afford it).
What can you expect from a good robotic vacuum cleaner? Great convenience and time-saving are at the forefront of robot cleaners. Most robots are supplied with a remote control to schedule a cleaning routine that works best for you.
Some have additional functionality to be controlled via a smartphone app. You can check the status of the robot, remaining battery time or turn it on manually to perform an ad-hoc clean.
Emptying the dirt bin takes a few seconds but it’s a small price to pay for the amount of time you reclaim. Personally for me, the Neato D80 is a firm favourite. The Neato robot eliminates pet hair better than some larger vacuums.
Clever route guidance enables it to navigate in a logical pattern and stick to the most efficient route. D80 is built with convenience at its core and is easy to set up.
Please note that robot vacuums cannot travel up and down stairs or clean high reaching areas. For this, you’ll need a secondary vacuum. Don’t worry, I’ve got a good solution for this below. Keep reading…
Super Quick Vacuum Cleaning
If you’re not sold on a robot vacuum cleaner, the next best solution is a cordless stick vacuum.
I must confess that from the onset, I wasn’t convinced that a cordless cleaner could clean as effectively as my full-sized upright vacuum but it wasn’t long before I changed my mind.
Choose your stick vacuum wisely and you’ll enjoy the benefits of faster vacuuming when compared to a bulkier appliance.
At the moment, Dyson is at the forefront of cordless stick technology. Why? They’ve designed a tiny powerful digital motor that spins faster than a formula 1 engine and managed to fit it into a stick vacuum cleaner that weighs a minuscule 2.3 kgs (5.07 pounds).
Stick vacuums are lightweight and portable and this makes all the difference for anyone wanting to vacuum quickly.
The secret is to store your stick in high traffic rooms such as the kitchen or the living room where you have immediate access to it. Most come with a mountable wall bracket.
What happens is that you’ll get into a routine of cleaning little and often. I can usually clean a whole room in the time that it takes me to take out my full sized vacuum and plug it in.
Dyson has a great range of cordless stick vacuums including the V6, V7 and V8. Each model has specific variants to meet the needs of demanding households including homes with pets, cleaning car interiors, vacuuming hard to reach areas, and also a mattress vacuum that gets rid of bed bugs.
Another great feature found on Dyson stick cleaners is a turbo boost button that cranks up the suction when extra power is needed for stubborn dirt like dried up mud or dirt deep-seated into your carpets.
The Dyson ball has been fitted into the cleaner head and it’s impressive to see how much time you save with the pinpoint steering. You can zip around and underneath furniture in minimal time no matter which Dyson model you decide to buy.
Typically I can vacuum the whole house in 10-15 mins compared to my upright vacuum that takes twice as long. I live in a busy 3 bedroom home with 2 flights of stairs, kids, a lazy husband and a dog.
If you’ve read my previous posts you’ll notice that I’m a huge Dyson fan and that’s because I stand behind high-quality products that work and make my life easier. I don’t see the point of buying a cheap appliance that doesn’t clean too well and has a higher chance of breaking down. Pay a little extra and save money in the long term.
Conclusion
It’s easy to fall behind with vacuuming when considering our busy lifestyles. Make a smart choice and buy a robot vacuum cleaner or a cordless stick vacuum and they’ll always be time for your floors to be cleaned regularly.

Who Makes The Best Vacuum Cleaner? This is the most common question that I get asked by prospective customers looking to buy the ultimate vacuum cleaner. Before we select the best brands we need to first look at what type of vacuum cleaner is best for your home. Here are a few questions you need to ask yourself:
Do you require a cordless or a corded vacuum cleaner?
Do you need a stick, upright, canister or handheld vacuum cleaner?
Do you want a vacuum that is lightweight and quieter to operate?
How much are you willing to spend on your new vacuum cleaner?
Vacuum Cleaner Budget
Paying more money for a premium vacuum doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get the best features.
After reviewing a countless amount of vacuums I’ve found budget vacuum cleaners that can sometimes outperform their pricier counterparts.
Personally, I like the Dyson brand because when you buy one of their vacuums you’ll notice the difference in performance straight away. You want a vacuum cleaner that is easy to handle, the machine shouldn’t weigh a tonne and of course, it should never lose suction.
Time-Saving Vacuum Cleaners
If you struggle to find the time to vacuum clean regularly I would highly recommend a robot vacuum that can be programmed to clean whilst you’re out and about. Here is a list of the Best Robot cleaners that we’ve tested and found to be just as effective as doing the job yourself.
If you can’t decide whether to buy canister or upright vacuum cleaner, why not choose a 2-in-1 cleaner that combines the power of an upright with the portability of a canister cleaner. For this, I’d highly recommend the Shark brand.
The Shark Navigator Lift-Away is a good example of great functionality and convenience fitted into a single machine.
If you are looking a low priced 2-in-1 vacuum with identical performance as an expensive premium then Shark Navigator Lift Away Pro NV356E is suited for the job. The transformation between upright and canister mode lets you make light work of cleaning stairs, carpets, hard flooring and hard-to-reach areas.
Cordless Suction Power
I’ll be honest that when I first heard about battery-powered vacuum cleaners I wasn’t convinced that they could produce enough suction power to lift dust, carpet fluff and stubborn dirt.
After testing several brands I recommend staying away from cheap cordless cleaners and pay a little extra for a Dyson V6 handheld vacuum. Why? Because the V6 is very powerful and not as expensive as the Dyson V8 but delivers similar performance albeit a slightly shorter battery life.
I found myself using the Dyson V6 more than my full sized vacuum and achieving similar cleaning results. You can mount the V6 stick vacuum on a nearby wall in the most frequented room and you’ve got immediate access to a powerful vacuum.
The wall bracket ensures that the battery is always fully charged and ready. Its great to see it at work considering how small and light it is.
Cordless Upright Vacuum Cleaner
If you’d prefer an upright vacuum cleaner but hate power cables getting in the way, the Bissell AirRam is a unique cordless upright that weighs just 3.5 kgs. It’s classed as a full-sized vacuum cleaner but it doesn’t come with the bulk of one.
Bissell AirRam runs for 40 minutes on a single charge, which is more than enough time to vacuum the entire house without worrying about the battery running out halfway through cleaning.
The machine is bagless and is fitted with a special bin that compresses the dirt to avoid clouds of dust escaping back into the air. Simply slide the ejector arm in one single motion to empty the bin. I like the LED lights fitted on the front of the cleaner head to help see dirt hidden in dark areas.
Portable Canister Vacuum Cleaners
Canister vacuum cleaners are a popular choice for those looking for a compact machine that is easy to store but shares the equivalent power of an upright vacuum. The Dyson DC39 Animal is a remarkable compact vacuum that delivers 257 AW of suction power.
At its base, the DC39 animal, swivels on top of the Dyson ball for the best manoeuvrability. The machine is certified Asthma and Allergy Friendly and is fitted with washable lifetime filters.
What stands out the most is the set of accessories provided- the turbine head works on most floor types including thick carpets and hard floors, the combination tool and stair tool ensure that every part of your home is accessible. DC39 Animal is compact, stylish and provides a comprehensive cleaning solution for large homes and small apartments.
Best Corded Upright Vacuum Cleaner
I recently reviewed the Dyson DC65 Upright cleaner and was so impressed by the machine’s performance that I bought one for my parents.
Dyson has balanced the weight of the machine and the Dyson ball to give the best handling that I’ve ever experienced on a full-sized upright.
If you’re worried that stairs and high reaching areas are hard to clean with an upright cleaner, the DC65 features a detachable extendable hose specifically for tight gaps, ceilings and stairways.
It lifts double the amount of dirt than its closest rival and purifies the air with its HEPA filters as the air travels through the machine. Dyson gave us bagless technology and Root Cyclone Power- if you’re expecting to use the best, DC65 will not disappoint.
Conclusion
We’ve covered a lot and I’m confident that you’ve found a vacuum cleaner to suit your lifestyle and home. Choosing a vacuum cleaner can be tricky business, it’s much easier to first decide on the type of machine suited for your home, to decide who makes the best vacuum cleaner.
Are you thinking of buying a vacuum from the above list or do you already own one? Please could you leave your comments in the section below. I’d love to hear from you.

Owning a pet is a joy but sometimes I’m too lazy to get out my cumbersome vacuum to clean up after them. What Is The Best Robot Vacuum Cleaner For Pet Hair? I tested out the bObsweep robot which combines vacuuming and mopping to give you spotless floors free from pet fur.
Robot vacuums are taking over the world and there are numerous benefits of owning an autonomous cleaning machine including:
Reclaim your time back i.e. less time spent vacuuming.
Your floors are always clean because they’re vacuumed regularly / daily.
You can set up convenient cleaning schedules suited to your daily routine.
Unlike a regular vacuum, some robots can vacuum and mop your hard floors.
Your cat can hitch a ride on the robot vacuum for fun!
bObsweep is a popular brand especially with pet owners because of the powerful suction that eliminates any traces of dog and cat hair engrained into your carpets and floors. Why I like bObsweep is because it houses a large 1 litre dirt bin which is one of the biggest dustbin available on a robot vacuum.
The bObsweep robot can detect stubborn dirt, turn up the brushing power and concentrate on the troublesome area until clean.
The machine works across multiple surfaces and is equipped with a UV light to get rid of bacteria.
The bObsweep robot vacuums any surface type, can mop hard floors and additionally UV sterilizes the floors during cleaning.
HEPA filtration is fitted as standard and helps to remove airborne allergens that can cause irritation with allergy sufferers.
You can customise the cleaning program to fit in with your daily life and the machine automatically returns to its charging dock when the battery is running low.
What can you expect from bObsweep PetHair
It goes without saying that the bObsweep robot prioritises the elimination of pet hair as its primary task.
Sweeping, vacuuming and mopping are what this machine knows how to do best. It adapts to your home and adopts a practical solution to ensure that these tasks are carried out exceptionally.
Vacuuming
The motor fitted into the bObsweep robot churns at a staggering 7500 RPM. At this speed, the motor can extract stubborn dirt and hairs buried deep within your carpets.
Sweeping
Sweeping dust and mess from floors is done with a combination of rotating brush and squeegee dust sweeper. The dual performance of sweeping and vacuuming is what makes the bObsweep robot vacuum very efficient at cleaning multiple floor types.
Mopping
The added bonus of vacuuming and mopping is unlike anything else found on a typical vacuum cleaner. Simply fasten the included microfiber cloth to the robot cleaner and Bob will sweep and polish hard flooring at the same time.
UV sterilizing
I’ve yet to come across a vacuum cleaner that uses a 400 NM ultra-violet lamp to sterilize floors as it cleans. Vacuuming with a dose of sterilisation is a first for me but another welcome addition to a robot cleaner that already excels itself.
Lithium X-AMPlified Battery
The bObsweep robot vacuum is fitted with a high-grade quad cell lithium-ion battery that ensures long continuous cleaning of 1 hours 15 minutes. A 2-Year Warranty is included to cover machine faults and defects.
Large Dustbin
Given that bObsweep is a portable vacuum cleaner, the dirt bin is huge. There’s a generous 1 litre of capacity for less frequent emptying. You’ll also find a 3-layer filter system that traps tiny particles and dust from being released back into the surrounding air.
The infrared remote control allows you to control bObsweep’s features and routines. Various cleaning functions can be programmed to fit in with your lifestyle. The biggest advantage of a robot vacuum cleaner is setting it up to work around your daily routine so that it never feels intrusive.
bObsweep Vacuum Cleaner Features
A cleverly designed side brush ensures that the robot can clean awkward spaces and sweep floor edges and corners.
The robot can distinguish and avoid stair edges thanks to the edge sensors.
bObsweep is fitted with infrared sensors to detect objects in its path, it will calculate an optimum route and manoeuvre around them.
Unlike other robot vacuums, bObsweep is equipped with dirt sensors that can seek out stubborn dirt areas that require more cleaning power. It will concentrate on those areas until clean.
A unique On-Board Diagnostics system keeps the machine working at it best by checking all parts for faults and alerting you to errors or maintenance requirements.
As mentioned earlier, the machine automatically detects a low battery and returns back to the charging dock when the battery power is less than 15%.
A big LCD screen provides vital performance information at a glance and keeps you up to date with cleaning performance.
bObsweep Robot Vacuum Has 3 Cleaning Methods
The bObsweep robot vacuum adapts to its surrounding area and navigates the terrain using cutting-edge tracking technology named Waffle TrackTM, Wall TrackTM, and Spiral TrackTM.
Robot / Auto Pilot- navigates through various surfaces to deliver a deep clean and returns to the charging dock when the battery power depletes to less than 15%.
Quick Clean- the machine will clean a medium sized space in a minimum amount of time and will return to standby mode after half an hour.
Touch Up-The machine will efficiently clean a small space and will return to standby mode after a quarter of an hour.
What Do You Get In The Box
Charging Dock and Adapter (110V/240V compatible).
Inbuilt Lithium-Ion 2200 mAh Battery.
Remote Control.
2 Microfibre Mopping Cloths and Mop Attachment.
2 Side Brushes.
Extra Main Brush (Blue) is included at no extra cost.
2 extra HEPA Filters are thrown in.
Blindfold and Bumper Stickers.
Maintenance Tools (screws and Phillips head screwdriver).
Cleaning Tool to keep your machine running at its best.
Owner’s Manual and Quick Start Guide.
Warranty Card (2 Year Warranty included).
bObsweep Robot Vacuum Overall Performance
When comparing bObsweep robot vacuum to robots such as Eufy or Neato I would say it isn’t as smart. The bObsweep robot is similar to the Roomba in that the cleaning patterns are random and the machine always starts somewhere different. Nonetheless, my carpets and rugs are always clean even if it takes the bObsweep a bit more time to get the job complete.
If the machine gets traps underneath or between furniture, simply pull it out and reset the error code to continue the cleaning cycle. Place the bObsweep robot vacuum wherever it left off and it will continue its journey. The robot has a lower profile at the front of the machine to help it manoeuvre underneath furniture easier.
Thankfully the bObsweep robot vacuum is less noisy than its rivals. There’s the benefit that bObsweep can clean without being a disruption to the household.
I used the remote control much more than originally anticipated. With the remote, you can direct the bObsweep robot to concentrate on specific areas. Convenience at your fingertips. Although the remote is described as an IR remote I found that I didn’t need to point it directly at the machine to give it a command.
The mop function works really well but the bObsweep robot can occasionally get stuck when it attempts to manoeuvre over wet floors, the wheels tend to lose their grip and spin around.
Despite the traction issue, I was impressed with the results of the areas the machine managed to mop.
I like that the bObsweep robot vacuum cleaner costs much less than its premium rivals. You would pay double or even triple for the same functionality found on Roomba robots. The bObsweep robot vacuum is also portable and lighter than it looks.
Is this the best bObsweep robotic vacuum cleaner with a mop? Yes, it is. I would highly recommend the bObsweep PetHair robot for its thorough cleaning cycles and ease of use.
The large dirt bin avoids the inconvenience of the robot stopping halfway through a clean whilst it waits for you to empty it. If you are thinking of buying bObsweep or already own one please leave a comment in the section below. I’d love to hear from you.

iRobot Roomba 650 Vacuum Cleaning Robot Review
This is the future of house cleaning. Nowadays when I visit a relative or friend it’s not unusual to find a robot vacuum whizzing through their house clearing carpets, rugs and hard floors whilst we catch up. The biggest advantage when you buy a robot vacuum cleaner is never needing to worry about cleaning your floors after a busy day or at the weekend when you want to chill out.
The iRobot Roomba 650 robot is a diligent vacuum that you can set up in your home and let it do the rest whilst you relax or get on with your day. It’s that simple.
The Roomba was one of the first robot vacuums on the market, there’s the assurance that iRobot has been designing high-performance cleaning appliances for a long time. The ergonomic design allows it to reach underneath furniture, sofas and beds thanks to the slim body height which pitches the Roomba 650 at just 3.6 inches tall.
The Roomba robot vacuum features a unique 3 stage cleaning system designed to lift all types of dirt including animal hair, spilt food, dust and anything else in its way.
What I love about the Roomba 650 is that you can stay on top of daily floor cleaning with very little effort. The machine can be programmed to clean around your schedule so it does not get in the way. I find that it works best when programmed to clean during the day when nobody is at home. I enjoy coming home to fresh clean carpets every day. Trust me, the novelty of a machine cleaning up after you will not wear off anytime soon.
Here are some features that you can look forward to when you buy the Roomba 650 robot vacuum:
It is equipped with a feature called iAdapt Navigation which houses various sensors that adapt to your home’s environment even when furniture is rearranged.
Roomba 650 is easy to schedule up to 7 programs per week, or simply manually press the CLEAN button and off it goes.
Never worry about charging the machine because it docks and recharges automatically when it detects a low battery.
Roomba 650 is capable of adjusting to different floor types automatically including rugs, carpets, tiled floors, hardwood and laminate.
A 3-Stage cleaning system comes as standard. Dirt is agitated, brushed and sucked up efficiently from carpets and hard floors.
Clever Design
Roomba 650’s low profile body gives it the distinct advantage to reach underneath areas that would normally be difficult to reach. Do you ever get put off moving your sofas to reach the dust that gathers behind them? Roomba will keep on top of this on a daily basis to stop dust from accumulating.
Another bonus about purchasing a Roomba 650 is that you will be supplied with Virtual Walls. The technology helps to create boundaries for the robot vacuum cleaner so that it stays within the confines that you set up.
The Roomba robot features a spinning side brush that sweeps wall edges and corners with great efficiency.
Roomba 650 is Easy to Get Started
The one-button operation lets the Roomba vacuum start cleaning immediately with no delays. You can always create a convenient cleaning schedule later. The iRobot Roomba 650 can be pre-set to clean up to 7 times every week.
How Powerful is the Roomba 650?
Okay, now that we know about the arsenal of features packed inside the Roomba 650 how did it actually perform in a real-life situation? My household is busy. I have a dog (Haimish) and messy kids (husband included). I wasn’t sure if the Roomba 650 robot could keep up and keep on top of the mess.
My dog, Haimish, sheds hair everywhere which can be a mammoth task to get rid of from my carpets and rugs. I thought the best case scenario would be the Roomba cleaning some of the hair then I would go over the rest with a full-sized vacuum.
Surprisingly the first time I turned on the Roomba robot it sucked up all of Haimish’s hairs like a champ and now my carpets are hair-free every time I get back home. The way I see it if Roomba 650’s suction power can eliminate stubborn pet hair it can take on any type of dirt.
Maintaining the Roomba 650 is much easier than cleaning the floors yourself. The machine collects dirt from the rear, so what you need to do is inspect the rear regularly and remove hair that might accumulate on the filter. Doing this will ensure that the Roomba robot doesn’t lose its suction power. I would also recommend washing the filter every week (takes less than 5 minutes).
The very fact that the Roomba 650 robot can clean hard to reach areas will mean that it collects a lot of unsightly dirt, dust and hair that you couldn’t normally clean with a full-sized vacuum. It’s astonishing to see the heaps of dirt collected on the first few cleanups, I kept asking myself where all that dirt was hiding. After several cleaning rounds the mess calms down.
What to watch out for with Roomba 650
Overall the Roomba 650 is a superb high-performance vacuum cleaner but I think you already get that impression. I‘ll point out a few things that could be improved so that you can get a balanced review. It could do with a larger dirt bin as seen on rival machines such as the ECOVACS DEEBOT N79.
The cleaning patterns should be optimised to avoid Roomba 650 going over the same areas more than once. It doesn’t appear to follow a predictable pattern although, in its defence, my floors are always spotless. Kudos to iRobot Roomba 650!
He occasionally gets stuck between furniture and objects lying around. Make sure that your floors are clear of obstacles before sending him off to clean.
Roomba 650 Product Rating
The iRobot Roomba 650 is a machine that is highly favoured by the majority of robot vacuum owners.
If you’re looking for a premium mid-range robot vacuum cleaner that won’t cost you a fortune then the iRobot Roomba 650 is a suitable choice. The machine is built to last and scored plenty of positive ratings from happy customers.
I’ll summarize the review with some helpful advice and guidelines for the Roomba 650:
Give the Roomba a bit of time to adapt to your home’s surroundings. Keep a watchful eye on the machine when it’s turned on for the first time to make sure it doesn’t get stuck somewhere.
Clean the dirt bin regularly to prevent loss of suction power.
I would recommend that he doesn’t vacuum sticky substances i.e. porridge, dog excrement or vomit to avoid damaging the machine.
Ensure that the charging dock is secure against a wall to avoid the Roomba knocking it over.
Keep lose cables and electric cords off the floor whilst Roomba 650 is hard at work.

If space in your home is limited, you should consider a compact vacuum cleaner. What is the best robotic vacuum cleaner for a small apartment or home? Before we look at robot technology it’s a good idea to keep a note of the type of space you are working with. Do you have an open-plan space or is it a cosy studio apartment?
Robot vacuums work better in rooms with fewer obstructions. Whether your home is large or small it’s best to clear away clutter so the robot can move freely. Here are a few reasons why robot vacuums are the perfect cleaning tool for small apartments and homes.
Robot Vacuum 3 Stage Cleaning System
Unlike uprights or canisters, modern robot vacuums are fitted with a 3 stage cleaning system. At stage 1 you will find a single or double side brushes that sweep debris and dust towards the vacuum. Stage 2 is a brush that rotates quickly to deep clean your floors.
The final stage is a powerful motor that efficiently sucks up dust and dirt into the collection bin. Robot vacuums might be small appliances but the 3 stage system delivers a thorough clean in small and large homes.
Why is a Robot Vacuum cleaner a good investment:-
It’s fascinating to see a robot vacuum cleaner working through your home. From the moment you switch in on it will cleverly work out the best route and remembers which parts of the house it has already cleaned. Robot vacuums will scan the surrounding area and quickly adapt to avoid collisions and falling off stair edges.
Leave it to work autonomously whilst you are out at work or shopping and you will come back to a clean home every time. Cleaning your floors is now one less thing to worry about. Most modern robot vacuums are designed to be compatible with your smartphone. This function lets you control everything from cleaning modes and battery charging to cleaning schedules.
All of this smart navigation is made possible with the use of proximity and cliff sensors (more on this below).
The robot always knows where to go and can find its way back to the charging dock when the battery is running low.
Given all this clever technology how do you decide what is the best robotic vacuum cleaner for a small apartment or home?
They are highly efficient and require little energy to charge batteries.
Requires less storage space than a full-sized vacuum.
Simple to set up cleaning programs.
A robot vacuum can easily adapt to your home surroundings.
Purchasing a robot vacuum won’t cost you a fortune. There’s plenty of choice ranging from premium to budget to suit every wallet.
Machine parts are easily replaceable and affordable.
Limitations of a Robot Vacuum:-
Unfortunately, robot vacuums cannot clean the stairs. Current technology hasn’t figured out a way for robots to climb or descend stairs. If you live in a small apartment or bungalow then this won’t be an issue.
Certain robot vacuums struggle to clean dark surfaces because the sensors mistake them for cliff edges.
This limitation won’t apply to most homes but it’s worth noting that robot vacuums will not work on inclines more than 30-degrees.
Not all robot vacuums are created with identical navigation systems and sensors. Below is a summary of the different types of navigation technology you can expect to find in modern robots.
Sensor Mapping– This type of mapping system relies entirely on sensors meaning that the robot will navigate through your home freely without a planned route. The disadvantage is that the robot can end up cleaning the same areas more times than necessary and waste battery power by doing so. The robot cannot remember where it has cleaned thus if it needs to recharge, it cannot resume where it left off. This inferior mapping system is normally found in cheap robot vacuums such as CleenMate or Robomaid. Ensure you choose your robot wisely.
Camera Mapping- arobot vacuum equipped with this system will use a combination of cameras and sensors to map out its route. The camera allows the machine to plot its bearings and remember the areas that it has already cleaned. This system is much more efficient than sensor mapping because the robot will not continue to go over areas that it has already cleaned thus saving on power and cleaning your home faster. If the robot needs to recharge its battery halfway through a clean routine, the camera mapping system will guide it to pick up from where it left. Camera mapping will be found on mid-range and premium models.
360 Eye Mapping– a clever type of mapping technology that relies on a camera placed above the robot for a 360 degrees’ field of vision of the surrounding area, this together with various sensors enhances the navigational capabilities of the robot vacuum. Similar to camera mapping, the robot will know exactly where it has cleaned already to avoid cleaning the same area. The most common robot with 360 mapping is the Dyson 360 Eye robot.
Laser Mapping– the robot will use a laser placed above the robot and a variety of sensors to determine where the obstacles are. The robot will know which parts of the house it has already cleaned and it can resume where it left off if it needs to stop midway to recharge. Laser Mapping is popular amongst robot vacuums such as Neato and Ecovacs Deebot.
Extra Features of a Robot Vacuum
Not all robot vacuums are created equal, their features vary depending on which brand and model you get. Manufacturers are constantly adding great functions to improve the convenience and autonomy that users enjoy from owning a robot cleaner. What extra features should you look out for when you decide to buy a robot vacuum?
Cleaning schedules
This is a must-have feature and thankfully most robots are equipped with a scheduling function so that you can plan which days and times you would like your robot to clean. Setting a schedule is a good way of ensuring the house is vacuumed regularly whilst you’re out and you can always return to a clean home.
Self-Emptying Bin
This clever feature is relatively new and addresses the issue of the dirt bin filling up partway through a cleaning routine. Robot vacuum bins are small and require emptying frequently. If you’re not around to empty the bin, the robot can return to the dock where the bin will be emptied into a bigger collection bin that can be emptied less frequently. That way the robot can always get on with the job at hand.
Mop Feature
What’s better than a robot that can clean floors? A robot vacuum that can mop floors as well. Robots such as the iLIFE V5s will vacuum floors and are equipped with a wet feature to mop hard floors.
This is made possible by including a water tank that works together with the auto damp mopping spa. This dual function is a great way of getting more cleaning tasks done.
Robot Vacuums Can Reach Small Areas
Small spaces that are normally difficult to clean are easily accessible to robot vacuums thanks to their portable low profile bodies.
Some robots can even adjust their height to navigate into limited spaces underneath furniture and beds. If you live in a small apartment or home you should take advantage of this great technology that requires little storage space and always keeps your home clean.

Is Ecovacs Deebot N79 the best robot vacuum for hard floors and carpets? Why are people suddenly fussing over robot vacuum cleaners? In recent years these tiny gadgets have enjoyed a surge in customer demand and there’s a good reason why.
Unlike the earlier models, robot vacuums are becoming a household staple. Manufacturers have refined the minuscule technology with cleaning power that is almost equivalent to a full sized vacuum cleaner. Who doesn’t love the idea of outsourcing floor cleaning duties at little cost? I’ve done this and have never looked back.
More importantly are the continuous improvements in the way that you communicate with your robot vacuum. In this scenario, the DEEBOT N79 is equipped with smartphone functionality to make operating the device a seamless experience (more on this later).
When I first heard about robot vacuums I shrugged off the idea thinking that it wouldn’t catch on. I thought that the notion of an autonomous vacuum cleaner was too gimmicky and might become an expensive disappointment.
I couldn’t have been any further from the truth. Everything from navigation to bin capacity has been ramped up to take advantage of every inch of space within the small robot vacuum cleaner.
So how does the ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 stack up against its rivals? Does it perform just as good as premium robot vacuums such as the Dyson 360 eye or the Roomba variants?
I’ll break it down feature by feature within the next few paragraphs so you can decide if the N79 is the right choice for your home. Side note- automated cleaning is time-saving and awesome.
ECOVACS app and Connectivity
ECOVACS has upgraded the N79 to wirelessly connect with your smartphone via the ECOVACS app. There’s no need to be at home to wake up the robot, control and monitor it from anywhere. Within the app you can schedule cleaning times, set a specific cleaning mode and monitor cleaning progress.
If you prefer not to use your smartphone, there’s a remote provided that can be used to program the robot from a close distance.
Sensors and Navigation
The DEEBOT N79 is fully loaded with the best set of sensors to ensure that it safely navigates across your rooms and avoids knocking into obstacles. The N79 robot is fitted with three different anti-drop sensors to avoid stair edges and drop-offs bugger than 3.1 inches. You never need to keep an eye on the machine worried that it might fall of a stair edge.
The N79 is also fitted with advanced anti-collision sensors that detect obstacles and work out an alternative route. The robot can safely avoid objects and calculate an optimum route without any delays. It’s impressive to see how far the DEEBOT has come, it delivers unrivalled cleaning performance.
Cleaning Modes
Deebot N79 can be programmed to perform different cleaning modes. The standard mode is Auto Mode which delivers all-around cleaning through your home. Single room mode will concentrate on one room to blitz the dirt completely. Edge Mode focuses on problematic corners and edges. Spot cleaning mode is designed to target specific areas where the robot will devote its efforts.
DEEBOT N79 is designed to deliver a higher level of suction thanks to the brushless motor which increases the rotation speed for a noticeable increase of power. This robot vacuum packs a punch and provides suction power of up to 1000Pa. It works best on hard floors but performs well on all floor types.
The primary brush features a 3-in-1 V-shaped design that works better at sweeping up more dirt from carpets and digging deeper to provide a thorough clean.
The high rotation speed and advanced brush design make sure that no dirt or dust gets left behind. By now you can start to see how the cleaning technology works hand in hand to keep your home clean 24/7. This is why robot vacuums are this year’s most favoured purchase.
The advanced MOTION technology and different cleaning modes ensure that the DEEBOT N79 tackles the floor spaces in your home more efficiently than ever. The features and benefits of a robot vacuum cleaner ensure that you save plenty of time and constantly keep the house clean.
Bin Capacity
The dirt bin capacity is 300ml which is a decent size for regular cleaning. Emptying it out will take you a few seconds thanks to the easy ejecting slot. I would recommend emptying the dirt bin after each cleaning cycle to keep the machine running at its best and it helps to stop blockages.
Battery
I like that the Deebot N79 requires very little maintenance. It is equipped with a high capacity lithium battery that keeps the robot vacuum cleaning for up to 100 minutes on a full charge. When the machine detects a low battery it simply returns to the docking station automatically and once fully recharged it will return where it left off.
